ABOUT STRONGSVILLE, OHIO
Strongsville is located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and is a suburb of Cleveland. The 2010 census lists its population at 44,750. The Strongsville real estate market went through some small fluctuations in the past few years, but saw a quick rise in house prices at the start of 2017 that has yet to abate. According to Realtor.com, the median list price for houses in Strongsville is $228,000.
According to its website, Strongsville “blends a strong business community with small-town charm”. Like much of the eastern United States, it has a centuries-old history, having been founded in February of 1818 as a township in what was then known as the Connecticut Western Reserve. It was named after John Stoughton Strong, the leader of the settlers that purchased the land. Also like many older towns and cities, a large proportion of the city’s major roads and streets are named after founding members of Strongsville, as well as other prominent residents.
Strongsville maintains a high quality of life, with an eye towards the public good; in addition to normal city departments like police, fire, animal control, and the like, there is a government department called ‘Keeping Strongsville Green’. The department publishes an annual newsletter and runs numerous events focused on what individuals and families can do to work better with their environment. These events include bringing in experts on gardening as public speakers and workshops on proper use of rain barrels.
In 2017, the annual Strongsville Magazine focused on the department’s efforts, with the cover mirroring the name of the department: “Keeping Strongsville Green”.
